The World Airline Awards, widely regarded as the "Oscars of the aviation industry," recognize leaders in the air transport sector through an impartial and global customer satisfaction survey.

Barcelona, June 27th, 2024 Volotea, one of the fastest growing independent airlines in Europe, has been recognized for the second consecutive year with the prestigious Skytrax World Airline Award for "Best Low-Cost Airline in Europe," winning in both 2023 and 2024. Skytrax, renowned experts in air transport and consumer air travel research, has established itself as a trusted authority in the sector. Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, the World Airline Awards are highly respected in the aviation world and serve as a significant benchmark of excellence.

The award winners are determined through the annual Skytrax consumer survey, widely recognized as the world's largest airline passenger satisfaction survey. Travelers across the globe vote in this extensive survey, and the 2023/2024 edition saw active participation from over 100 nationalities, with 21.42 million eligible entries counted. This vast scale underscores its significance and highlights Volotea's commitment to continuous improvement and dedication to meeting the needs of its customers, which is distinguished by the comfort and quality of its cabin’s interiors and aircraft, its reliable client service, and especially the friendliness and professionalism of its crew, always providing unique connectivity to small and medium-sized cities in Europe.

Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax, shared: “We congratulate Volotea on the fabulous achievement of being named the Best Low-Cost Airline in Europe for a second consecutive year. Europe is the most competitive global region for low-cost airlines, and as one of the smaller airlines, Volotea management and staff should be extremely proud of this accolade that underlines the quality of their service and hospitality.”

Carlos Muñoz, Founder and CEO of Volotea, said: We are very happy to receive this recognition from Skytrax, again this year. Since we started Volotea in 2012, we have focused on providing our passengers with a great flight experience, always with very competitive prices, and we've done that now for over 60 million travelers across Europe. This award goes to our entire team, especially our very professional and very friendly crews, for their incredible effort and dedication. And of course, a big thank you to our passengers and to Skytrax for this honor.”

With record Net Promoter Score (NPS) ratings throughout the year, including year-to-date figures at the close of May at 40 points, and 9 out of 10 clients recommending the airline, this recognition from Skytrax reaffirms Volotea's leadership position as a low-cost airline in Europe and its reputation as the preferred choice for travelers seeking non-stop connectivity, affordable fares, and an exceptional travel experience. The award was presented to Volotea at Fairmont Windsor Park in London during an event attended by Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax; Esther Calvo, Client Experience Director of Volotea; pilots Rafael Villalobos of Nantes and Claudio Sinno of Verona; and Base Managers Patricia Lorenzo of Bilbao/Oviedo, Benjamin Millet of Nantes, and Francesca Pierantozzi of Florence.

The airline adds this award to its growing list of achievements, including a four-star rating for 2024, also from Skytrax. Additionally, the airline received the 'Best European Low-Cost Airline 2024' award at the World Travel Awards in March, marking its third win, having previously achieved this recognition in 2021 and 2022.

ABOUT VOLOTEA

Volotea was founded in 2011 by Carlos Muñoz and Lázaro Ros, also previously founders of Vueling. It is one of the fastest-growing independent airlines in Europe in the last decade, increasing its fleet, routes served, and seats offered year-on-year. This year, the airline celebrated a milestone of carrying 60 million passengers throughout its network.

Volotea reaches 110 airports and is based in 21 medium-sized European capitals: Asturias, Athens, Bari (new for 2024), Bilbao, Bordeaux, Brest (new for 2024), Cagliari, Florence, Hamburg, Lille, Lyon, Lourdes, Marseille, Nantes, Naples, Olbia, Palermo, Strasbourg, Toulouse, Venice, and Verona.

This year, Volotea will operate nearly 450 routes (with over half exclusive), offer between 12.5M and 13M seats (+12% to +16% versus 2023), and fly approximately 80,000 flights. The airline operates a fleet of 44 Airbus A319 and A320.

Volotea is working towards achieving a more sustainable future in aviation. The airline is set to achieve its target of reducing direct CO2 emissions per passenger-kilometer by 50% by 2025, five years ahead of the initial schedule. Furthermore, the airline has set a new and even more ambitious goal: to decrease emissions by 58% by 2030. To date, Volotea has launched over 50 sustainability initiatives that have already driven a reduction in carbon footprint per passenger and kilometer by more than 45%. Since 2022, the company has been working on developing emission-free alternative technologies, operating Airbus' internal shuttle service with 34% sustainable aviation fuel and collaborating with manufacturers and the industry so that these fuels (now difficult to access) can be developed and become widespread as soon as possible.

Volotea, with a projected workforce of approximately 2,100 employees this year, actively boosts connectivity within the territories where it is based while contributing to their economic development and enriching the cultural landscape through impactful sponsorship projects.

Volotea was awarded a four-star rating in 2024 and recognized by Skytrax in its global passenger satisfaction survey as the “Best Low-Cost Airline in Europe” at the 2023 and 2024 World Airline Awards, referred to by media worldwide as “the Oscars of the aviation industry.” The airline adds these accolades to its growing list of achievements, which includes consecutive wins for "Europe’s Leading Low-Cost Airline" at the World Travel Awards in 2021, 2022, and 2024.
