Welcome to Alicante, a city offering a delicious mix of historical charm, lovely beaches and a vibrant atmosphere that’s sure to draw you in.

Lying on the southeast coast of Spain, with a population of around 330,000, Alicante is a medium-sized city boasting a rich history that goes back thousands of years. One of its most famous monuments is Santa Bárbara Castle, perched on top of Mount Benacantil, overlooking the city and the glistening Mediterranean Sea. This ancient fortress offers breathtaking views and bears testimony to the city’s important past.

Alicante is renowned for its beautiful beaches, including the famous urban beach of Postiguet. Its golden sands, stretching along the city’s lively seafront, and the numerous restaurants and bars make it the perfect place for a break. If you’re looking for somewhere a bit quieter, you can explore the nearby San Juan beach, with its vast expanse of sand and a holiday atmosphere.

Aside from its beaches, Alicante also has various cultural gems for you to discover, including the Basilica of Santa Maria, a 16th century Gothic-style cathedral. As you stroll through the streets of the old town, known as El Barrio, you’ll come across charming squares, colourful buildings and quaint shops, as well as countless bars and restaurants for dinner and whiling away the small hours.

If you decide to venture out of the city, don’t miss the chance to visit the wonderful island of Tabarca, a designated marine reserve just a short boat trip away; the Palmeral of Elche, the largest palm grove in Europe; the partying capital of Benidorm; and the scenic coastal town of Calpe.
