The airline recorded a 37% increase in ASK as a result of its successful expansion plans, which included the opening of three new air bases in Asturias, Verona, and Strasbourg.
22nd February 2016 –Volotea, the European airline for mid and small‐sized cities, grew by 37% in ASK (Available Seat Kilometres), the measurement for determining growth as defined by the aviation industry, in 2015. Of the main players, this figure makes Volotea the low-cost airline in Europe with the highest growth rate in 2015. This growth was achieved in large part as a result of the significant increase in the airline’s offer: 46 new routes and a growth of 38.6% in seats on sale when compared to 2014. With this data, Volotea confirms once again its position as one of the top 10, best low-cost airlines in Europe.
VOLOTEA KEEPS GROWING STRONGLY
Volotea informs that in 2015, it recorded a growth of 37% in ASK (Available Seat Kilometres), one of the main indicators for growth as used by the aviation industry. This figure makes Volotea the company with the highest growth in 2015 among the main low cost European airlines. ASK is reached by multiplying the number of seats available with the kilometers flown and has been calculated using data for 2015 and 2014 as provided by SRS Analyser, an official partner of IATA, the International Air Transport Association. This figure reiterates the success of the company’s expansion plans and the strengthening of its position in the airline sector.
The high growth rate of Volotea in 2015 is explained in large part by the company’s strategy based on expansion through the increase of its offer. In 2015, the company opened 46 new routes, offering travelers the opportunity to choose between a total of 159. The seats on sale by the company also rose in 2015, reaching a total of 3,464,775, an increase of 38.6% when compared to 2014. In addition, in 2015, the airline flew almost 24 million kilometers, 36.9% more than in 2014, a figure which is explained mainly by the rise in its flight frequency and the incorporation of longer flights in its product portfolio.
The increase in Volotea’s operations in 2015 proves once again travelers’ interest in the company and Volotea’s will to continue developing its network to offer new destinations whilst maintaining its initial market positioning: to offer a good quality experience at the best price.
In response to this recently published data, Carlos Muñoz, Volotea’s CEO stated: “We are particularly proud to be part of this ranking which shows that Volotea is well positioned as one of the top 10 and the single fastest growing European low cost airline. Our growth and success have been achieved thanks to our clients’ loyalty following and employee dedication. 2015 has allowed us to further consolidate our position in the aviation industry and, to prove once again that Volotea is a company with a great future.”
