May, 7th 2020 - Volotea has communicated today its initiatives to support and to contribute to the battle against the coronavirus crisis in the markets where it operates. The airline has launched a fundraising campaign, to support humanitarian projects in Italy, France, Spain and Greece. In these countries, Volotea has also communicated the will to offer special rates as a sign of gratitude to all health professional.

While preparing the resumption of its operations, Volotea is also developing projects and agreements to back the markets where it operates within the Coronavirus crisis context.

Volotea launched today a fundraising campaign in different countries in Europe to help organizations supporting vulnerable groups. The airline is now offering the possibility to its customers to donate during their flight booking process to support humanitarian actions. The donations will back several initiatives like health, employment or social inclusion projects.

Volotea also announced its intention to contribute by rewarding the health professionals at the front line of the fight against the pandemic. The airline has set up a dedicated “thank you” 50% fare-discount on its 2020 flights to all health workers in the markets where the airline operates. Volotea is one of the fastest-growing independent airlines in Europe, increasing year-on-year its fleet, routes served and seats offered. Since 2012, Volotea has carried more than 25 million passengers across Europe. The airline expects between 8.5 and 9.0 million passengers in 2020. 

For 2020, Volotea is adding six aircraft Airbus 319s and 62 new routes to offer a line-up of 354 short-haul city-pairs among 96 medium and small-sized airports in 15 countries at very competitive prices.

Volotea operates its network with 39 aircraft, 25 Airbus A319s and 14 Boeing 717s, based in 16 European mid-sized capitals: Venice, Nantes, Bordeaux, Palermo, Strasbourg, Asturias, Verona, Toulouse, Genoa, Bilbao, Marseille, Athens, Cagliari, Lyon, Naples and Hamburg.

The Hamburg base has been opened to operate a shuttle service for Airbus, and was recently inaugurated. The bases in Lyon and Naples will be opened in 2020.

To enable its growth, Volotea has opened recruitment processes to cover over 200 employment positions in France, Italy, Spain, Greece and Germany. In 2020 Volotea will count with 1,500 employees.
