At Genoa airport, a prize-winning ceremony was held for Salvatore Allia, an employee from Catania, the 7 millionth passenger of the European low cost airline.

Volotea expects to achieve its 10 millionth passenger by the end of the year, fueled by 35-40% annual growth

Genoa, March 29th, 2016 – Salvatore Allia, 45 years old and resident of Randazzo, located in the province of Catania, is the lucky 7 millionth passenger of Volotea, the low-cost european airline for mid and small-sized cities. Salvatore, passenger on the flight V7 1727 from Genoa to Catania, was the true protagonist in a special prize-winning ceremony held at Genoa’s Cristopher Columbus airport.

Carlos Muñoz, CEO and Company Founderhas given the prize to the winner, accompanied by Giovanni Toti, President of the Liguria Region; Paolo Odone, President of Genoese Chamber of Commerce; and Marco Arato, President of the Genoese airportSalvatore Allia has received a very special prize: the possibility to fly for free to all the Volotea destinations from Catania or Genoa for an entire year .

Volotea and the airport of Genoa have established a perfect synergy over the past years and we are very happy to be able to celebrate our 7 millionth passenger in the Genoese capital,” stated Carlos Muñoz. Since the start of our activities in Genoa, we have built a strong and lasting partnership with the airport management and, as a result, we are increasing the number of flights and destinations on offer this year. In the next few months, we expect to announce new developments which we believe will help us to achieve the significant growth potential of our company in this airport”, he concluded.

Volotea offers fast and comfortable connections from Genoa to seven different destinations which include regular routes to Palermo, Olbia, Naples and Catania. Moreover this year, the company is opening new routes to Brindisi (whose maiden flight is scheduled on 28th May), Alghero and Cagliari (both effective from 29th May).

The company has reached great success since the beginning of its operations in Genoa in 2012. It has transported approximately 385,000 passengers on its more than 4,360 flights. This is a result of the airline’s strategy which is based on offering flights to small and medium-sized European cities, unserved by other carriers.

Volotea is committed to the city of Genoa: “ Over the next few months, we have decided to focus once again on the tourist potential of Liguria. As a result, we are increasing our number of seats by 26% and are offering 2,000 flights and 260,000 tickets to and from the Genoese airport,” said Carlos Muñoz. “On behalf of Volotea, I want to express my special thanks to the partners and local authorities who have trusted in our company and who are supporting us as we grow. At the end of this year, Volotea will achieve its 10 millionth passenger.


Volotea continues to grow and fulfil its objectives: in 2012 the Company had two bases (Venice and Nantes) seven in 2015 (Venice, Nantes, Bordeaux, Palermo, Strasbourg, Asturias and Verona) and will open its 8th base in Toulouse in March 2016.

In 2016, the low cost airline will operate flights to three new countries (Portugal, Malta and UK), in addition to the 10 countries it flew to last year (France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Greece, Croatia, The Czech Republic, Israel, Albania and Moldova), offering a total of more than 38,000 flights with 196 routes to 72 cities in 13 countries.

Volotea transported 2.5 million passengers in 2015 and forecasts 3.3-3.5 million passengers in 2016, which represents 35%-40%passenger increase. In addition, the company expects to reach a total of 10 million passengers transported by the end of this year. In the first months of 2016, the company will incorporate four Airbus A319 to its fleet of 19 Boeing 717. This strategic decision will allow the company to increase its passenger capacity by 20%, from its current 125 seats to 150 seats on their aircraft, which will enable Volotea to operate routes with a longer distance and, therefore, to penetrate new markets.

Volotea was awarded on October 21st 2015 with the Prize of the Best Client Service for 2015 in the airline category. In Quality of Service, Volotea scored the highest of all the companies evaluated, with 8.58 / 10, which makes it the leader in the airline category.


Volotea, the airline of mid and small-sized European cities, offers direct flights at attractive prices. Its fleet is currently composed of 19 Boeing 717, with a configuration of 125 seats and will incorporate 4 Airbus A319 by the end of May 2016.
